The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation surrounding the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve with a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
